The Alternative Medicine Advisor
The source for evidence-based alternative health care options
Why use this service?
I have access to medical information that 99.9% of the public doesn't.
Access to medical journal articles is only available by subscription. In general, only scientists, researchers and academicians have this access. Just searching for honest, up-to-date information can take hours (see You'll save time and frustration below). When you finally locate an article, it's only available as an abstract (1 paragraph) 95% of the time. If you want to buy just ONE article from one of the companies that publish these, you'll pay a minimum of $25.00 - almost as much as this service provides for an unlimited number of such articles.
The information is reliable.
I only provide information from scientific journals that are published by world leaders in health and medicine, with articles written by physicians, researchers, and health care professionals. The quality of evidence for any new or existing therapy that we inform you about will either be good or excellent; if it's not, we will inform you of why it should be taken lightly or not at all.
The information is current.
You can find decent information on health issues on other web sites. Here's the problem: Much of it is outdated. (Check the date at the bottom of the page - it will usually be at least 6 months old.) Whether you're looking at sites from trusted physicians, government organizations, or other reputable sources, it can't help you if it's old news. When you hire me to do a search, I provide what's new, not what others already know. And whether you're dealing with an embarrassing skin problem like acne or a painful intestinal disease, who wants to wait 6 months to feel better?
You'll save money.
Think of how many millions of dollars are wasted on therapies that don't work - or can even cause harm! (maybe not by themselves, but by preventing effective treatment from being used sooner). Why invest your hard-earned money in alternative therapies that don't work, when there are often ones that do? Find out what works first!
You'll save time and frustration.
How many hours would it take for you to search through the 'Internet badlands' for honest information? The Web is a minefield for consumers, who have to navigate phony claims for miracle cures and 'pseudo-informative' web sites that provide only enough 'information' to sell a product. Do you have that much time to waste?
You may be able to reduce your medication.
Alternative/complementary treatments often improve blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, allergies, and reduce the inflammation that underlies many diseases. Why is this important? First, drugs are expensive, unless you have insurance. Second, drugs often have unwanted and dangerous side-effects, especially in combination. The ideal situation is to get healthy enough to not need medication. However, the second best option is to minimize your need for these.
You'll be more respected and valued by your Physician.
Take a team approach with your Doctor and other members of your health care team. Make the most of the limited time you have with him or her. Share what you are learning with them.
This is not a commercial service.
Many sites that provide free information carry advertising messages, or structure their information to support products they want to sell. Others cite animal studies that don't apply to humans to support their sales of dietary supplements. Only human studies can support recommendations for people. You can trust me to inform you about what is evidence-based, not what makes me a quick profit.
